“There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.” Romans 8:1-2 [NKJV].
The first time we encounter the term, “The Law of the Spirit of Life” in the bible is in Paul’s letter to the Romans, in the first verse of chapter 8, to be specific. First of all, Paul lets us know something very important, “…there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus” (NLT). If or when you receive Jesus Christ as your Lord and identify with His death and resurrection, old things have passed away and you are no longer condemned because of sin. Christ defeated the power of sin on the cross of Calvary and defeated death and satan in hades. The life He raised with is ours if we believe and receive Him.
I’m starting from here because it’s important for you reading this, especially if you haven’t received Jesus Christ and, consequently, the Eternal Life He purchased for you. If you fail to receive His gift of Life, you are already condemned (John 3:16-18). So just take the easy way out of condemnation and receive Jesus Christ. The very thing that qualifies you to be under The Law of The Spirit of Life is being born again.
“Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God…” 1 John 5:1 [NKJV].
It’s as simple as that. If you believe in the Son of God, you are born of God and you also become a son of God. Being born of God automatically gives you the same nature and identity He has; what’s that? Righteousness of course. 2 Corinthians 5:21 says, “God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” There are 2 ways to look at this scripture and both of them are valid. The first is the fact that we are made right with God and have peace with Him in Christ Jesus. The second is that we have a righteous identity, that is, we are right and there is no iniquity found in us.
So, you see, it’s important for us to be free from sin and the hold of the devil; however, we can’t (even if we tried for 1000 years) attain that freedom by ourselves. I thank God that Jesus Christ already became sin for us and died and the cross more 2000 years ago and raised us to Life in Him.
To add something crucial: don’t let anyone convince you that the sacrifice of Jesus Christ is not absolute and eternal. Some false prophets would have you believe that the sacrifice of The Lord Jesus is not enough to break generational curses and attacks from witches; please flee from such doctrines. 2 Corinthians 5:17 clearly tells us that “if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” It means that the man you were, who was once under the bondage of curses and witches and demons, is dead and the man you are now is a brand new person in Christ. The new man, the man you are now in Christ is free from the curse of sin, any generational curse and is far above any demonic forces. Is that clear? Good.
I felt it was necessary to remind us of the basics of our salvation in Christ because sometimes the pressures of life tend to make us forget who we are. In the next lesson, we’ll get straight into what exactly is the Law of The Spirit of Life.
