“For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” Galatian 5:14.
The above scripture puts it sweetly. All the law is fulfilled in love. So if you’re trying to find out how the law is fulfilled, you needn’t look too far. Love is the fulfillment of the law. When Jesus our Lord said He came to fulfil the law, he was clearly saying that He had come to reveal to us the Love of God, or clearly put, He was coming to reveal to us God (Since 1 John 4:8 tells us that God is Love).
“What does all have to do with The Law of the Spirit of Life?” you may ask. Don’t you see? The Law of the Spirit of Life is Love. Oh yes, love is the law of the spirit. Observe this:
“Owe no one anything except to love one another, for he who loves another has fulfilled the law. For the commandments, ‘You shall not commit adultery,’ ‘You shall not murder,’ ‘You shall not steal,’ ‘You shall not bear false witness,’ ‘You shall not covet,’ and if there is any other commandment, are all summed up in this saying, namely, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ Love does no harm to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.” Romans 13:8-10.
It’s amazing isn’t it? Love is the fulfilment of the law. If we love, we won’t do anything that will bring harm to another person or perform acts that will dishonor God. So you see since the law instituted by the sacrifice of Jesus Christ is The Law of the Spirit of Life; and since we already know that Jesus Christ fulfilled the law by His sacrifice, we can rightly say that The Law of the Spirit of Life is Love.
“I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.” Galatians 5:16 & 18.
So then, remember that in this new law we are led by obedience to the promptings of the Holy Spirit or, simply put, led by the Spirit, we must realize that walking in the Spirit, as shown in the verse above, is simply walking in love. Any time you exhibit the fruit of the Spirit in your daily life, you are walking in the Spirit. Anything you love your neighbor as yourself, you walk in the Spirit. Any time you put others before yourself, you’re walking in the Spirit.
You see that? It’s that simple. Operating in the Law of the Spirit of Life is being led by the spirit and walking in the Spirit; walking in the Spirit is walking in love i.e. making use of the fruit of the recreated, born-again spirit as listed in Galatians 5:22-23.
Do you begin to see now how the law was such a shadow of the things to come? Under the law forgiveness of one another was impossible because of our hearts hardened by sin. The law could only tell us what to do and not do but it couldn’t transform our hearts to be able to life the higher live of love. I thank God for The Law of the Spirit of Life; I thank Him for the revelation of His love through Jesus Christ. He has called us to a higher Life. He has called us to the walk of unconditional love.
