“Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is the devil, and release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.” Hebrews 2:14-15.
Jesus died to destroy the holder of the power of death, the devil. He hung on the cross at Golgotha, in-between two criminals and gave His life for humanity, so that the holder of the power of death could be defeated. The devil has, since the fall from grace, held mankind in bondage by the fear of death. It’s possible that mankind was afraid of death because we knew that eternal separation from God was all that awaited us after death, because of sin.
“…for this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.” 1 John 3:8.
Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil. Destroying his works is pretty much taking his power from him. Jesus stripped the devil of his power and dominion in this earth realm. Colossians 2:15 says that Jesus “disarmed principalities and powers,” and that He made “a public spectacle of them.” The devil has no power over you if you are in Christ Jesus!
It’s not a pompous statement to make; but you’d better make it only when you are hidden in Christ Jesus. When you have believed on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, you identify with His defeat of the devil; you are freed from the bondage of the fear of death.
Brother, sister, you needn’t be afraid anymore. You don’t have to keep looking over your shoulders in fear of death, sickness and the 2nd death. Jesus has defeated sin and death. In Jesus Christ you have been set free from sin and death; the power of sin no longer has influence over you if you are in Christ. So come and join the amazing family of the Father.
