GOD’s selection list is usually littered with the foolish, weak and imperfect people. HE takes imperfect people and makes them perfect. Look through history and the scriptures and you’ll see a list of weak and imperfect people that God used to do great things.
Moses wasn’t a great speech maker and he sure wasn’t a confident deliverer. David was a ladies man who took it a step too far; Samson was a hunk who always took it too far. Gideon was not trying to be the hero in any one’s story, so he looked for every excuse not to be. Peter denied The LORD, because he was scared; the list could go on and on. None of the people God called were perfect, from Abraham, Isaac and Jacob to Peter, James and Paul.
“But GOD hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise…” 1 Corinthians 1:27.
But GOD chooses the foolish things (or people in this case) for a reason. HE does it to make rubbish of the so-called wise. You see, GOD is the beginning and the end; HE has the past, present and future playing out before HIM so why does HE need perfect people when HE’s still doing all the heavy lifting?
Remember when GOD called Gideon to be the defender of Israel against the Midianites? GOD cut Gideon’s army all the way down to 300 men to face a vast army. From a human standpoint, it really doesn’t make sense, but see GOD wanted everyone to know who it was that won that battle. Eventually, those 300 men barely fought, but the enemy was completely defeated.
The people of Israel watched GOD defeat their enemies and delivered them through weird ways: they brought down the mighty walls of Jericho by marching and shouting; they defeated three kingdoms by singing and praising GOD; and they were freed from slavery by smearing blood on door-posts. Bear in mind that it wasn’t these acts themselves that gave them deliverance, it was obeying the GOD that uses the foolish things to confound the wise.
The Bible says that “…the foolishness of God is wiser than men...” (1 Corinthians 1:25). Are you beginning to understand why HE uses foolish things to confound the wise. ‘GOD’s foolishness is wiser than men’ is such a profound statement that makes you feel sorry for the people who choose to trust in the arm of flesh. The foolish things that GOD tells you to do (Like believing only on the name of JESUS) are the things that will bring you victory. Strategies are good, so are making your own plans but these things should never done outside the counsel of GOD. Imagine if Gideon chose to rely on military tactics than on doing what The LORD told him to do; Israel would have been plundered.
GOD chooses the foolish things to confound the wise so that HE will show us that, truly, success is through HIM. HE must take all the glory, “that no flesh should glory in His presence” (1Corinthians 1:29). The truth is trusting GOD is the wisest way to go.
