“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16.
This is what many would call the classic salvation scripture. “For God so loved the world…” The degree of God’s love for us cannot be measured. God loves us so much that He couldn’t bear to see us perish, so He sent His only begotten Son to take our place in death. “The wages of sin is death,” Paul told the Roman church; those wages couldn’t be paid by us, they could only be paid by Jesus.
Sins aren’t covered because one decides to be good. Sins can only be covered by blood.
“And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission” Hebrews 9:22.
“Remission” is that passage means “Release from bondage” or “Forgiveness of sins.” Without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins. This is why under the old covenant, even though there was the law given by Moses to live by, the Israelites still had to make blood sacrifices every year. They couldn’t keep the law and even if they could, the law couldn’t cover their sins; only blood could. Leviticus 17:14 tells us that the life of a creature is in the blood; so it stands to reason that a life must be given for the forgiveness of sins.
The main problem with the old covenant (because it was a shadow of the real deal) was the fact that the blood (the life) of animals was just enough to atone for the sins of mankind for a year; even then, these sacrifices could not make them perfect or remove from them the consciousness of sins. God always had the plan of the new covenant coming; a covenant He cut with Jesus Christ on our behalf; a covenant that would make us perfect and remove our sins forever.
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son…” The Lord of the hosts gave His Son, Jesus Christ, to make us perfect. His blood was shed for us as a perfect sacrifice to blot out our sins forever. He promised it didn’t He?
“I have blotted out, as a thick cloud, thy transgressions, and, as a cloud, thy sins: return unto me; for I have redeemed thee” Isaiah 44:22.
“And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the Lord: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more” Jeremiah 31:34.
Our sins were blotted out, forgiven, by the blood (life) of Jesus Christ. According to John 3:16, if we believe in the Son of God, we will not perish in sin, but we will have everlasting life. The blood of Jesus isn’t like the blood of animals; His blood forgives our sins FOREVER!
“But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building; neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us” Hebrews 9:11-12.
Isn’t that amazing? The blood of Jesus doesn’t assure us of momentary redemption, but ETERNAL redemption. All our sins are forgiven (past, present and future), if we believe in Jesus Christ. It is in His sacrifice, that one-time final offering that has given us access to the Father; that has made us righteous. God so loves us, and He is asking you to receive His Son and the abundant and perfect life that comes through Him. There;s no obstacle for you; no sin that cannot be forgiven by the blood of Jesus. Come to Him. The veil has been torn. Access has been granted; why don’t you come in? Come into this family of love.
