Keep Your Eyes On Jesus

…and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith…” Hebrews 12:1-2.

Keep your eyes on Jesus; and why shouldn’t you? He’s not only the Captain of our salvation, He is the Lamb of God that was slain to offer us the very righteousness of God. It is because of Him that we cry “Abba Father” without wrath or doubting. Keep your eyes on Jesus.

He is the high priest of our salvation. He forsook His own will and walked meekly to the cross of Calvary and offered His own life as an everlasting sacrifice for your sins and mine. His eternal, one-time sacrifice uprooted the evil nature of Sin and its fruits. It is because of Him that sin- and its works- is dead in you and righteousness is alive. He was crucified with sin and raised in righteousness and all your sins- past, present and future- were forgiven. It is because of Him, that while once we were sinners and enemies of God, now “…we have peace with God…” through Him ( See Romans 5:1). Keep your eyes on Jesus.

Your guilt and your shame have been washed away; the “Handwriting of requirements that was against us” (See Colossians 2:14) have been wiped out; we have become one with God in that His righteousness doesn’t exceed ours because  now our righteousness is that which we obtained from Him. We are now lovers of this eternal and magnificent God because of the finished works of Jesus Christ; because of the lamb slain. Keep your eyes on Jesus.

He has not dealt with us according to our sins nor punished us according to our iniquities” (Psalms 103:10). “As far as the east is from the west, so far has been removed our transgressions from us” (Psalms 103:12). He has covered our sin and has not imputed to us our iniquity (See Psalms 32:1-2). He has completely blotted out our sins like a thick cloud (See Isaiah 44:22). All this became so because God imputed our sins and transgressions on Jesus; the Lamb bore them all for us so that we could be free; He became sin so we could be righteous. Keep your eyes on Jesus.

Now, old things have passed away and all things have become new; sin has passed away and righteousness is here; the old man is dead and the new man is alive in Christ. We can make boast of our righteousness because it is in Christ it exists. No wonder Paul said, “It is no longer I who live but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the son of God…” (See Galatians 2:20).

The forgiveness of our sins is in Jesus; the liberty we now enjoy is in Jesus; the righteousness we possess is in Jesus. We can do nothing on our own. We could offer ourselves no form of redemption on our own; we could never earn the forgiveness of sins on our own. All we are now and all we have is in Jesus Christ and our belief in His finished works. No one will go to hell for being a sinner anymore; sin is defeated. The only crime would be rejecting the son, the lamb slain, the captain of our salvation. Keep your eyes on Jesus.

Believe in His finished works today, call on Him and be saved. Proclaim Him as your Lord; accept His life, the same He purchased for you on the cross; accept His righteousness. And whenever troubles come; whenever doubts creep in, remember to keep your eyes on Jesus.
