“All the prophets say it is true that all who believe in Jesus will be forgiven of their sins through Jesus’ name” Act 10:43 (NCV).
The prophets proclaimed it and it still rings true, even today: all your sins are forgiven in Christ Jesus and in Him alone. Your effort and good deeds aren’t needed, only repentance and submission. In order words, you can’t give your way in eternal life; your sins can only be forgiven by faith in Jesus Christ.
In Cornelius’ account in Acts of the Apostles, it’s clearly shown that this Roman believed in the one true God and he did good works. That didn’t get Him saved. At this point if he died he would have surely been eternally separated from God. Is it because he was Roman? Of course not; it’s simply because he hadn’t received Jesus because The Gospel hadn’t been preached to him. So The Lord had to rectify that. He sent an angel to tell Cornelius to send for Peter. This was necessary so that Peter could proclaim The Gospel to this Gentile. Angels can’t proclaim The Gospel, so Peter had to do it.
In speaking to Cornelius and his family, Peter said “All the prophets say it is true that all who believe in Jesus will be forgiven of their sins through Jesus’ name.” Cornelius and his family believed in Jesus and immediately their sins were forgiven and, in unprecedented fashion, they received the infilling of the Holy Spirit simultaneously. It shows that unless in person believes in Jesus Christ, his sins cannot be forgiven.
“Jesus is the only One who can save people. His name is the only power in the world that has been given to save people. We must be saved through him” Acts 4:12 (NCV).
The statement above, made by Peter to the Sanhedrin is loud enough for all to hear. Your sins cannot be forgiven through bodily torture, or good works, or giving up everything you have. Your sins can only be forgiven by believing in Jesus.
“God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son so that whoever believes in him may not be lost, but have eternal life. God did not send his Son into the world to judge the world guilty, but to save the world through him. People who believe in God’s Son are not judged guilty. Those who do not believe have already been judged guilty, because they have not believed in God’s one and only Son” John 3:16-18 (NCV).
No one will die The 2nd Death because of sin; people will only be eternally separated from God because they have refused to believe in The Son of God, the only one sacrifice for their sins. The people who will end up in the lake of fire are those who have rejected the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, thereby condemning themselves.
Let me make one thing clear: God isn’t sending anyone to the Lake of Fire; whoever ends up there did so by choice. Jesus said, according to Matthew’s account (Matthew 25:41), that everlasting fire was prepared for the devil and his angels, it wasn’t prepared for any human beings. However when Adam fell from grace, sin (the nature of the devil and his angels) passed down to every one of us. And because of that sin that entered the earth through Adam, we were all, unfortunately, going to end up in that everlasting fire.
God didn’t want that to happen so He sent Jesus as a living, substitutionary sacrifice for us. His death, burial and resurrection saved us from sin and made us righteous, if we believe in Him. So you see, God doesn’t want us to end up eternally separated from Him. Before Jesus came, we were all headed to everlasting fire because of sin. But now that Jesus has paid the high price for sin, no one has to suffer anymore because of sin; all we have to do now is receive Jesus Christ and be free and have our sins forgiven and wiped out.
So brothers and sisters, realize today that faith in Jesus Christ is the only answer to your freedom for sin and its fruits, from depression, sickness and disease and all the resultant pain and shame. Believe in Jesus Christ today and receive His goodness.
