Live The Higher Life

Jesus Christ called us to a higher life in Him. He didn’t save us through His marvelous sacrifice for us to just continue to live our lives the way the heathen would. Look through the “Beatitudes” and ponder on them. After much pondering you’ll realize that those things Jesus described can never be achieved by one who hasn’t drank from the stream of Living Water.

But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you… Pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you” Matthew 5:44.

Unless the love of God has been shed abroad in your heart through Christ, I’d say it would be quite difficult to love you enemies, wouldn’t you agree. Listen, Jesus spoke these words, not as a moral playbook, but as an indicator of what the new creation should be like. The righteous man should never repay evil for evil, but good for evil (Romans 12:17). When we are made Sons of God in Christ, our whole spiritual faculty changes from sin to righteousness; and it reflects in our deeds. It may seem hard at first to do these things (Like turning the other cheek), but the deep in you continues to call out to you that righteous acts must be done.

God’s standard of perfection and godliness is higher than the world’s standards. The world expects us to do good to those we love, but the Kingdom of God demands you do good to those of hate you and annoy you. Don’t be afraid if you think you can’t meet up with this perfect standard. Why? Well its because God himself is the one who gives you the ability to meet righteous standards. Observe the verse if scripture below:

“…

And now that I am away you must be even more careful to do the good things that result from being saved, obeying God with deep reverence, shrinking back from all that might displease him.

For God is at work within you, helping you want to obey him, and then helping you do what he wants

” Philippians 2:12-13 (TLB).

God is helping you want to obey Him. He’s also helping you do what He wants; so all you have to really do to live the higher life is to stick to God’s Word and yield completely to Him.

Turning the other cheek isn’t so hard when God is helping you do it. Loving your enemies isn’t so hard when God is helping you do it. Praying for those that persecute you isn’t so hard when God is helping you do it. So allow Him to help you. How do you do that? Read and obey His word and yield to the promptings of the Holy Spirit, and you’ll be just fine.

Receive the higher life from Jesus, and live the higher life with God’s help.
